Link textbox

I came across a publisher file and i find it interesting that one text box
can be linked to other text boxes in such a way that if I change the text in
any box, the change in text will be automatically reflected in the other text
boxes.

however i have gone through all the publisher help and i still can't
understand how this can be done. Can anyone help?

Publisher 2002. The file created is using the same version.

Look on the toolbar, just to the right of the help icon. You will see what
looks like a couple of links from a chain. With the first text frame
selected, click on the link icon and a measuring cup will take the place of
your cursor. Move this to the frame you want as the next in line and click
to 'pour' the contents into that frame.

Thanks for your reply. But here I am not trying to link two textboxes such
that the overflow will enter into the 2nd box. This is a linking case where
if i change the text in any textbox, the same text that has been changed will
appear in the other boxes. And i have not been able to find the function that
link the text boxes together.

This feature is, unfortunately, only available on Wizard-generated text
boxes: you cannot create it manually yourself.

That's a different question. It can't be done. (The term you wanted was
synchronized, not linked.)

Linked is a perfectly good term to describe the effect, even if it isn't the
technical term for what confused wanted to achieve.

It's a great word - but in this instance, it means something else. :-(

The only other thing you might try is to use the format painter function.

This is useful. Where do i go about doing up the wizard generated text boxes
? It seems like those wizard generated text boxes i've seen look very normal,
just like any text box.

You cannot create wizard-generated text boxes: that is why they are
"wizard-generated". Because the Publisher wizards create them. They may
look normal, but Microsoft have chosen not to allow users to create
synchronised text boxes.

Seriously, you can't do this. Believe me!

I did find a weird workaround.

If you take a text box from a wizard-generated document, for example the
volume/issue box in a newsletter, you can enlarge and relocate the boxes.
Put your text in there. If you need more than on instance of the text, you
can copy and paste. You will have to format the text in each one
individually but it does work - at least in Pub 2003.
