Linking from Excel causing duplicate tasks

Hello, I've been assigned to use microsoft project to automatically gather
task and resource information from a database and create reports from it.
From reading other comments on this board, it seems to be impossible to do
with Access, so I'm now exporting the table to excel, and linking to there.

The problem is if I update the excel spreadsheet so that there are less taks
than there were previously, when MS Project re-establishes links it does not
delete the extra rows on the bottom, but it rewrites them higher up, leaving
me with duplicates of tasks. Is there any way around this? I'm starting to
think it's impossible. They want it to update as easily as Access does, if
it can be done.

As you have found, the links between Excel and Project are fragile and
easily broken/corrupted. There is no easy way to troubleshoot the problems.
The best advice I can give you is to avoid using them.

If you want to develop a solution you would be better off using VBA.
