Linking to a folder

I'm looking to set up a slideshow that allows the user to click on an object
that will then open a folder with documents to select from (ex. pdf files).
They can then open the pdf file from the popup directory.

I know it's possible, but hyperlinks doesn't seem to allow you to select a
folder as an option.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Is there a reason that you don't want to provide a menu of the files in
PowerPoint and link the menu items to the associated file? I ask because that
is the way I would do it.

You can't? Mine does. On an object I right click > Hyperlink. I set the
link to Existing File or Web Page on the left and then choose a folder
on the right of the dialog box. (Click one time on the folder, not
twice.) I click OK and the object, during the show, opens Explorer at
the folder I told it to.

Are you doing what I described, or how are you setting up a link? What
version are you using. I'm using 2002

I can't because I'm handing this off and it is requested to be set up that way.
The files in the folder may change from time to time.

No problem with the method I discussed. It opens the folder and
whatever is in there is what it will reveal and give access to.

I don't understand where the problem is. Are you by chance using Action
Settings? Try using Hyperlink (Insert menu) instead.

Or (maybe)you are trying to set up a constant menu (not actual folder)
of files the user can access in the show?

You're right Gregg. I wasn't clear. It did let me select it but but when I
tried to run the slideshow yesterday the folder didn't open up. Today I
tried it with a new file and it did open the folder outside of PowerPoint.
Strange.

Do you know if it's possible to get a window to open without leaving
PowerPoint in other words a popup window?

Thanks :)

So, the Windows Explorer window, although it is a separate window, is
opening correctly, right? But you don't want and additional window
object to run? I wonder if you could create a pop-up userform that
would display file names which are loaded into the form from a
particular path. Then the user could click the file item they want and
hit an OPEN button in the userform which would then call for that file
to open and close the userform.

1) Obviously, the file would open another window. Would that work?

2) If this is possible and it's workable for you, others here would
have to aid you, because I'm more of an Excel VBA person and just
starting to trip through PowerPoint VBA, which is a whole 'nuther world
in a sci-fi movie.
