Links ignore logic

Clare

I am trying to find the source of this problem to correct it. Would someone
have a solution?

Create a new project using MS Project Professional 2003 (SP2)
(Project is local and NOT on server)
It doesn't matter if project is scheduled from start or end date
Define 4 dummy tasks
All tasks are fixed duration, non-effort driven
Link all or even some of the tasks using FS or SF

The issue: all tasks line up to the start/end date - ignoring the linking
logic. That is, task 1 and task 2 start on the same date even though task 2
has a FS link to task 1.

We have performed identical steps on different pcs; and the installatios on
other pcs are behaving correctly.
We have tried uninstalling, cleaning the registry and reinstalling project.
We have compared Tools/Options on my pc with that of others and the settings
are identical

I believe the issue is with global.mpt but have not been able to prove this.
We have tried to use other's templates, but attempts haven't been successful
thus far. I'm still pursuing this, but don't know if it's a waste of time.

If I remember correctly, the global.mpt originally had the following option
selected: "New tasks are effort driven". This was unselected and applied to
the global.mpt during a training class. But, every re-installation of
project shows the modifications from the training class - leading me to
believe that we did not successfully remove the global template. That
assumes that my belief about the option in the global template is correct.

Would replacing the global template correct this or is there something else
we can do?

Grazie,

Hi Clare,

I have the impression that under Tools, Options, Calculation, Calculation is
set to Manual
Anyway, FAQ 50 (see address of FAQs below) explains the potential reasons
(other than corruption) that may cause this to happen.

It's a good idea to have to option set to automatically recalculate rather
than relying on F9 in the future.
