I recently got a new computer and installed the old hard drive from the
machine that was replaced and no longer working into the new machine. On the
old drive, is an .mdb (Access 2000) file that I am trying to open.
Unfortunately, it is both password protected by Access and the file is also
encrypted. I can't open it without getting the "The Microsoft Jet database
engine cannot opne the file...It is already opened exclusively by another
user, or you need permission to view its data." message. I also don't seem to
have permission to copy or move the file from the old drive to the new drive.
I verified that there is no .ldb file in the directory so this is a problem
with my current permissions on the new machine.
I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 and Office 2003 now.
I tried to boot using the old drive and access the file that way, but I
messed up earlier I think when I "took ownership" of the directory that
contained the file using my current User Account. Now the permissions are all
messed up and I can't open the file in Access.
I don't remember how I password protected the file in the first place
becasue I am not that familiar with MS Access, and I never got around to
looking into the "correct" way to do it. Now I'm stuck!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Gary
