Long delay before login box appears.

I have outlook2000 installed on several machines in our office. We are in Illinois, and the Exchange server we connect to is in Rhode Island. On some machines, when I open Outlook, it takes anywhere from 10 seconds to 2 minutes before the login box appears and I can enter username, domain, password. I get the "Exchange server not availible" message with options to retry or work offline. If I keep clicking retry, eventually the login box appears and I can log in. On other machines in the office, there is no delay at all. Anyone know what could cause this
