Losing Linked Graphics when printing

I have a series of Word documents sent to me from offshore. Each of these
documents is in a discreet folder. Within the same folder is a file labeled
"images", containing 3-4 more file folders, each with images (jpeg screen
shots) that are linked by insert/picture/from file to the main Word document.
They were prepared that way to avoid Word instability and too large a file.

The problem: Each time I try and print one of these documents, it "loses"
the link and will not print the graphics. Up until the time I click "OK" to
print, the screen shot graphic is visable. After that they are no longer
there - just the outline with the little "x" in the upper left corner. Same
thing happens in Print Preview. The jpeg file names only vary in terms of
their "path" which changes depending upon the lowest level folder they reside
in. Meaning that some (root) file names are duplicated. But even the non
duplicated ones will not print.

The good news is that I do not lose the link forever. If I close the file
without saving it and re-open it the graphics are once again there. But
repeating the process "loses" the pictures onces again.

BTW - the offshore group does not have this problem.

Help?

Have you looked at Tools>Options>Print to make sure that you have checks in
place for:

Update Fields
Update Links
Drawing Objects
(Perhaps) Background Colors & Images

And no check in the box for:

Draft Output
Print Data Only for Forms

Thanks for the ideas, but all is as you have below. No settings seem out of
kilter. The next thing I am going to try is someone else's computer. Any
other ideas, no matter how wacky would be appreciated.

If the images are all jpg screenshots, resolution shouldn't be a problem, so
what happens if you remove the 'Update Links' check before you print?

It seems like the issue revolves around the link paths, & you're probably
getting the images displayed when you open the files based on what is
actually stored in the doc. How does it read if you go to Edit>Links?

CT: When unchecking 'Update Links', same thing occurs. I do believe the file
paths to be the issue. I have tried loading the files, via memory key onto
other laptops that do not have the same configuration that mine does
(proprietary corporate, etc) and the same disappearing act happens, more
radomly - I actuall get a screen shot printed.
Hard to describe how 'it reads if I go to Edit>Links'. File names are not
always the same (use of a '%' sign in text?) in 'Source File for selected
Link', no 'Update Method' selected and image is not locked, and 'Save Image
in Document' is not checked.
Is this what you wanted to know?
PS - Locking one picture in document - locks that picture. The rest do the
disappearing act again. Ha! I think we are getting close, but if we need to
lock each and everyone of these then I am sending back to the originator to
do so.
Your thoughts?

Pt. 2
I did the next logical thing and highlighted all the files in the Link
Editing box and 'locked' them. Not sure but this seems to hold them there.
Will continue checking.

Pt. 3:
'Locking' the relationship helps some, but not all. Graphics stay viewable,
but majority still do not print (majority = 8 out of 10 pages).
