Problem with loss of traffic overnight and this address keeps appearing in my
statistics 20th September 2007

westcountrylinks.co.uk/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll

I have not changed anything on the site.
can anyone help please, I have been running the site for 6 years and have
not had this problem before.

That file would have nothing to do with loss of traffic.
Have you checked with your host?

yes I have, they say the server is working o.k.

I thought I might have a block on it or something as it comes up as the most
popular page in the stats over 400 yesterday. Ive not seen it before.

You will see a reference to author.dll any time your site is accessed by FrontPage on a Windows IIS
server that has the FP extensions installed.

Thanks, it just seems strange that instead of 20,000 page views a day its
almost stopped for this site and all I get is 400 of these author.dlls in my
popular page view stats.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

Do you have the FP extensions installed?

If yes, are you accessing the site via IE's Edit with FP or directly with FP to work live or publish
a lot? When ever you access your site via FP, are you being prompted for login info?

Yes FP extensions, I publish once a day. It has only happened with this site
the author.dlls do not show on any other site. So I thought I might have a
block somewhere.

Check the IP address the is accessing the file via your server stats.

What is worrying is
I found that google is comming up with Network unreachable and service
unavailable for this site, but I have had no down time or error pages.

I feel something is blocking and other than my hosts I do not know who to ask.

L

Lee

They say there is nothing wrong with the extensions or the server.
It does not make sense to me, at first I thought google had dropped me like
so many others. But it has tried and gets Network unreachable and service
unavailable for this site, its o.k with my other sites on this server.
It just seems there is a block and I do not know what to do.
Thats why I have come here for help.

Can you provide the URL to this site?

Look at your server stat and see what IPs are requesting the author.dll file. In general they should
mostly be your IP.

Ask your ISP/provider to check the stats!

Just got to that
I opened an account with another domain name so I could smoothly move my
other domain over . My isps had disapeared so I had to do it through nominet.

I now find google will index the first one BUT NOT the one I moved as it is
not my main account.
I will be so relieved if that is all it is, but I thought my hosts would
have come up with this one. I will try contacting them again
Thank you all for your help
