Macro lists from addins

C

Chris Watts

I have accumulated all my useful macros into one Excel 2000 workbook and
saved it as an Addin. I have loaded the addin and ...
- all the macro shortcut keys are active
- all the macros can be run from the VB editor
- all the macros can me run by typing in their names under
Tools>macros>Macro name

But..
I cannot find a list of macros from which to select.
This was available when the macros were actually loaded as part of a
spreadsheet but don't seem to be there when loaded as part of an addin. Is
this inevitable or am I looking in the wrong place?

Such a list would be useful as I want some macros available but not on
shortcut keys - and remembering their names is a pain. Perhaps I need
another macro, with a shortcut key, that lists these "hidden" macros for
selection!

TIA
Chris

I've never done enough homework to quite grasp the mechanics of add-ins
.... but I have a collection of macros in a workbook, and under the VBA
editor Tools | References I have added a reference to that workbook and
all macros are then visible.

When I wanted functions from the analysis tool-pak, I had to register
that add-in from the Excel menu ....

This may be enough info to get you going ... if not, you may need a
reply from someone more experienced than I.

I believe the nature of Addins is not to display the individual macros to be
run. This is intentional, as it prevents someone you distribute your addin
to from possibly stealing your source code. Unfortunately, there is no way
to disable this behavior. To do what you want, I would recommend creating a
PERSONAL.xls workbook and storing all your macros there. Google
"PERSONAL.xls" for more information on how to do this
