Mail Merge Find Entry does not work when data file has many fields

HI again

I created several mail merge data source from FoxPro program I wrote, a text file, a few with approx. 511 merge fields and others with less than 100

I created mailmerge documents using the above source file using Word 97. When I open one of the mail merge documents in Word 2002(XP) which has ~511 merge fields and then try to find a record using Find Entry the record is not found. Using the same files in Word 2003 I have no problems

Note: When I use a mail merge file & data file with fewer data fields, I have no problem with Find Entry

Again does Word 2002 have a problem with mail merge data files that have a large amount of fields

Thanks in advance for your help

All I can say is that problems were reported with Word 2002 with large
numbers of fields in text files, and Word 2003 has fixed a number of
problems intorduced in Word 2002. So your theory is probably correct - the
question then is what can be done about it & I don't really have any ideas
on that except the obvious one of "if no single mail merge needs 500 fields,
then try to produce data sources with reduced field counts".
