Mail merge not working after 2007 upgrade

I have a Word doc and data file both created in Word 03' and stored on my
network home drive. When I open the main document in 03' and edit the
recipient list and then close the doc it tells me the mail merge main
document is attached to a data source that has not been saved and do I want
to save it. Clicking Yes works fine.

When I open the main doc in 07' and do the same process it tells me the same
message but the main document name is a weird series of numbers and letters
and then when choosing yes to save it, it tells me the data source file is
read-only.

The file is not read only and it works in 03'. I tried saving both docs in
07' format but get the same error. Copying the 07' docs to my local computer
works fine. Anyone know what it is about 07' that causes this error across a
network? Thanks!
