Master page template

After changing or renaming my "Index" page to "Home" page, the new Home page
no longer acted as the Master Template. The new Home page does not update
the other pages when changes are made to common areas of the site page. One
of the other pages is now acting as the "master template", and will update
all other pages, except the "Home" page. The new "Home" page seems to be
disconnected from the other pages. How do I make the new "Home" page the
master template.

Rename your home page file name back to what your host requires (probably index.htm)

Stefan,
Thanks for the quick responce. If I rename the page back to Index.htm, is
there a way for me to make the label of the page "Home" (what a viewer to my
web site would see)?

If you mean in your navigation, in Tools Site Settings Navigation

In addition to what Stefan said, if you mean at the top of the browser,
that's the page <title>Title</title>. If you mean in the browser's address
bar, then no.

Dan,

Below is a copy of the web page code for the "Home" page (Index), followed
by one of the web pages that is updated with the other pages. What must I
change?

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<META NAME="description" content="SICG offers low cost, holistic Retirement
Income Planning, Investment Management and Wealth Preservation solutions">
<title>SICG offers low cost, holistic Retirement Income Planning, Investment
Management and Wealth Preservation solutions</title>
<meta name="keywords" content="retirement income planning, investment
management, wealth preservation">

If you want the information at the top of the browser to say "Home" on your
index page, then change <title>SICG offers low cost, holistic Retirement
Income Planning, Investment Management and Wealth Preservation
solutions</title> to <title>Home</title>. The only page you have now that
truly represents itself is your "Contact Us" page. See where its title is
"Contact Us"?

I made the changes. But what I want is for my web site navigation buttons to
be Home, Solutions, Benefits, etc), and not Index, Solutions, Benefits, etc.
When I changed Index to Home (under "Navagitation"), I lost the ability to
use it as a master template for the other pages and automatically update the
other pages?

When I view your page the nav buttons *do* say Home, Solutions, Benefits, etc
not Index, Solutions, etc.

Yes, I got that working! But II still want the Index/Home page to be the
master template for all othe pages. Changes made to the Index/Home template
area is not made on the other pages?

You need a DWT (Dynamic Web Template) to do that.
DWTs are used as templates for pages. Any change to the DWT will be
propagated to all non-editable regions in attached pages. See Help in
FP2003.

Your Home page is not, and never can be, a dynamic template as you wish
it to be.

IMPORTANT: First, make a backup of the site.

Copy the home page to index.dwt, set up editable regions for the page
content, and changeable meta tags such as description, keywords and
title, and any other items that may change from page to page. Then
attach the DWT to all pages.

IMPORTANT: Make a backup of the site first. Attaching a DWT in this
fashion will damage some pages - you will almost certainly get something
wrong that deletes content from some pages.

Actually, regardless of whether you use a DWT or a MasterPage, the Home page
can not be either one, but can only employ one. A Template, by definition,
is not a page.
