Maximising Word

S

SJ

Version: 2008

When I open Word it only takes up about 1/3 of my screen, even if I click on the + button to try to maximise it. Does anyone know how to make Word take up the whole screen so I can see what I'm doing better?

Thanks!

Existing docs will open to the same size as last saved & closed. If you want
new docs to open at a certain size open your Normal.dotm template, set the
window size you want then close & save the change.

The template is located here:
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/Normal.dotm

I tried to do what you said but my 'normal template is very small -- only
about 2.5 inches square -- and I can't resize it. When I click on the green
button it does not get bigger. Any other suggestions.

I'm not familiar with 2008 but usually on the Mac, clicking the +
button may only open the the window as large as the document is
(i.e., why make it bigger? It would just waste desktop space)

You need to set the view on your document to be bigger. In 2004
you would do this from the "View" menu and selecting "Zoom" then
setting the zoom size to something larger. 2008 should have
something similar.

I have a 20" iMac with my screen resolution set to the maximum of
1680x1050 and my document view default is set to 125% as that
makes the document big enough to fill the screen but not hide any
of a normal letter sized page.

If I'm doing a lot of typing, I'll set the view to something
larger so that it's a little easier on the eyes :)

User the lower right corner to stretch the window to whatever size you wish.
Once you make any edits & save the file it will continue to reopen at
whatever size it was last saved & closed. You can also use the Window> Zoom
Window command to swap back & forth between the last 2 sizes used.

Hi Jeff,

In addition to dragging the lower right corner, try this:

View > Customize Menus and Toolbars > Commands Tab
Under Categories click View
Under Commands find Fit To Window and drag it to the standard toolbar
then let go. You should see the new button on the toolbar.
Click OK

Now open a document and then click the Fit to Window button. Is that better?

Interesting and practical approach although the view zooms always
worked for my needs. The OP had some other issues though.
