Merge to Fax does not show.....

C

CB

We'll I finally got it working thanks to Milly =-)
I will share the steps I took for the forum that worked for me as best as I
can recall. Please note YMMV:

1) Share the modem. 1 modem, haven't tried a pool yet. ;) Have users add the
modem to thier printers.

2) Add the 'FAX transport service' to outlook for users who will use the
merge! <---I missed this bigtime. It is like adding another mailbox in
outlook for that user.
Tools-->Email Accounts-->Add--> Additional server types. Shoose transport
service.
MODEM MUST ALREADY BE INSTALLED!

3) Create a document open the data source and add the fields and preview.

4) FAX NUMBER MUST BE IN this format: [fax:1,999-555-1212] WITH BRACKETS!
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=289532 if using outside data source.

5) Merge to email and select the field of the FAX number as the destination.

6) The fax transport service will recognize the format of the field and push
it to the shared fax.

Thats how to merge to a shared fax with office 2003. Make sure to test first.
Lot's of hoops imho.

I am trying to do the same as CB, but am not able to add the 'Fax Transport
Service'. Outlook does not show any Additional Server Types. This is what
we are trying to accomplish: Send out customer letters via fax notifying
them of price increases by doing a mail merge in Word from a list with
customers and corresponding fax numbers in Excel. We are using Word 2003,
Outook 2003 on Windows XP SP2, trying to fax via Microsoft Shared Fax on a
Windows 2000 SBS.
Thanks,
Dennis
