Merge to Fax does not show.....

I was trying to do the same thing (posted somewhere here but it has
disappeared). I tried everything - in the end the only way I could get it
happening was without mailmerge (I didnt need to use any of the merge fields
- maybe the case in your scenario).

I imported all the records from excel into contacts in outlook via csv
(File/Import). I then went back to the document and selected File/Print and
selected the fax option in the drop down. When the wizard starts you are
able to select multiple recipients from your address book. Its a little
longer - but it worked.

customers and corresponding fax numbers in Excel. We are using Word 2003,

| We'll I finally got it working thanks to Milly =-)
| I will share the steps I took for the forum that worked for me as

|
| 1) Share the modem. 1 modem, haven't tried a pool yet. ;) Have users
| add the modem to thier printers.
|
| 2) Add the 'FAX transport service' to outlook for users who will use
| the merge! <---I missed this bigtime. It is like adding another
| mailbox in outlook for that user.
| Tools-->Email Accounts-->Add--> Additional server types. Shoose
| transport service.
| MODEM MUST ALREADY BE INSTALLED!
|
| 3) Create a document open the data source and add the fields and
| preview.
|
| 4) FAX NUMBER MUST BE IN this format: [fax:1,999-555-1212] WITH
| BRACKETS! http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=289532 if using outside
| data source.
|
| 5) Merge to email and select the field of the FAX number as the
| destination.
|
| 6) The fax transport service will recognize the format of the field
| and push it to the shared fax.
|
| Thats how to merge to a shared fax with office 2003. Make sure to
| test first. Lot's of hoops imho.

The only problem is we need to put the customer name and the amount of the
price increase (could be different per customer) into each letter.

Funny thing, I had tried the install on 3 PCs and the Fax Mail Transport did
not show in the Additional Server Types. But, just for a whim, I tried it on
a 4th and Voila! there it was. Strange, since all these PCs are the same
model and configuration and I used the same administrator login to install.
Any ideas on why it would install on 1, but not the others?

The only problem is we need to put the customer name and the amount of the
price increase (could be different per customer) into each letter.

Funny thing, I had tried the install on 3 PCs and the Fax Mail Transport did
not show in the Additional Server Types. But, just for a whim, I tried it on
a 4th and Voila! there it was. Strange, since all these PCs are the same
model and configuration and I used the same administrator login to install.
Any ideas on why it would install on 1, but not the others?

I was trying to do the same thing (posted somewhere here but it has

happening was without mailmerge (I didnt need to use any of the merge fields
- maybe the case in your scenario).

I imported all the records from excel into contacts in outlook via csv
(File/Import). I then went back to the document and selected File/Print and
selected the fax option in the drop down. When the wizard starts you are
able to select multiple recipients from your address book. Its a little
longer - but it worked.

| 3) Create a document open the data source and add the fields and

|
| 4) FAX NUMBER MUST BE IN this format: [fax:1,999-555-1212] WITH

I have about the same set up as you have on your computer.
I have followed the steps you shared (thank you!) and completed the merge.
However;
the fax looks nothing like the word document that is on my screen or that
prints out.
I use j-peg picture of my logo that prints out fine,
but when merge to fax it is a full pages by it self.
Print preview show it to be less then 1 page, when faxed the line spacing is
more and it takes up 2 pages.

the tabs seem to be gone also when meged

This is th 1st time I've used one of these post,

thank you for your help
