merging name tags

After I merged name tags (eight on a page), I saved the file so I could clean
up any names that weren't fitting properly. When I re-opened the file to
print it, it printed out each name eight times on a page instead of eight
different names on each page. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks!!

Reset the merge data.
Are you using a label template? Are you trying to merge with all eight labels on
your screen?

I'm not sure what "reset the merge data" means.

I am using a Publisher template for name tags and there's only one name tag
on the screen.

I know I can start over and recreate the merge and print using the task pane
(Publisher's recommended way to print name tags, labels, etc.) but I
sometimes need to edit the merged text to make it fit better or if I find out
I spelled something wrong. Maybe this isn't possible?

Sure it is possible. What I meant is to break the merge, do your data edits,
save and then connect the merge again in Publisher. I don't know why your edits
are not reflected automatically, but it isn't too difficult to reset the merge.
What program are you using for the data?

I had given up on this because I didn't understand what you were saying but
I've been using Pub 2003 for a few months now and I think I understand it a
little better. When I said I wanted to clean up a few of the name tags, I
meant edit the font size, not the actual text. So I have to be able to
complete the merge, create a new file out of it and be able to edit that file
(not my original data file). Does that help any? I'm working on name tags
again, with the same problems, so it's fresh in my mind.

Thanks!!

When you do a merge the default is always Times Roman 10pt, you can change this
before you merge to any font, any size. Just be certain your text box is big
enough to accommodate the new font and size.

Mary,

Thanks for getting back to me about this, but I think I'm not explaining
myself correctly. I know how to change the fonts. In fact, that's what I'm
tyring to do on one or two labels for people who have extra long names. I
don't want every name tag to have to have a smaller font, so I just adjust
the few that don't fit correctly. I used to be able to do it in Publisher
2000, but it looks like it's just not possible in 2003. It's okay, though. I
was able to do it in Word.

Thanks again!

Anything you were able to do in 2000 you can do in 2003, only better. Open the
Catalog and Merge Wizard, in step 5 convert the merge to a publication.

Do you mean "Create new publication..."? Because that's what I'm doing. Then
I edit the few name tags that aren't fitting correctly. But when I print, I
get one name 10 times on a page instead of 10 different names on a page.
Print Preview shows it this way, too.

Hello Jam,
The only other suggestion is for you to setup your labels manually, you will
have to type each name and address.
