Microsoft Word with service release 1

What is Microsoft Word with service release 1? I have a Brother MFC
6800 all in one printer/scanner and I need third party software to scan
on my ibook G4 with Mac OS 10.3.7. Brother tech support gave me a list
of sofware and Microsoft Word with service release 1 was one of them. I
have office 2004. I can't scan and other people in my Mac user group
have the same problem.

Service Release 1, actually Service Pack 1 (SP1), is the first updater to
Office 2004. It is available at the Mactopia.com download page
(<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx>). You can also use the
Microsoft Auto Update (MAU) application to check for updates regularly.

In case you're using Office X rather than Office 2004 (please always specify
when posting!), the Service Release 1 (SR1) for Office X is contained in the
10.1.6 Security update, also available at the URL above.

Word is not going to solve your scanning problem. If you had Word
installed, you could scan into it if the scanner worked. But if the scanner
works, you can use the result of the scan in any other application you like.

Get back to Brother and tell them to get your scanner working like they said
it would, then you can debate which word-processor you want to use later.

Install Word if you want to do heavy-duty word-processing with complex
formatting. For small, simple projects, check out Apple's iLife suite: it's
missing a lot of functions, but it IS a lot cheaper.

Cheers
