missing Template category in Publisher

I wanted to create a non-Avery CD label template for publisher.

Change a template
This procedure works only if you already created a publication template in
Publisher and saved it to the default template location.

Note If you save a publication template to a location other than the
default template location, it is not available in the New Publication task
pane, and you cannot use it as a template.

On the File menu, click New.
In the New Publication task pane under New from a design, click Templates.

looking at the picture in Help, it shows an arrow, and "Templates."

I do not have that category. I have 3 times now installed ALL via setup, and
still don't have it ALL.

How do I get the category under New from a design?

Thank you,

When you save your publication do you save as, files of type and scroll down to
Publisher template?

I haven't saved anything, anywhere. I bought MS Office 03 pro yesterday. It
only has Avery labels, which I don't use. So I need a non-Avery template. I'm
going to need a LOT of these new templates, since it has no generic ones.

Since it is a NEW program I don't know how to use it. So I asked help, and
it said do this - edit template under New . . ., only I can't do it.

So what I really want to do is create a NEW non-Avery template. And of
course, new program, have deadlines for multiple projects, new stress.

thanks for the quick reply!

Most, if not all Avery labels are pretty much standard and most of the time conforms
to other companies labels. What are the dimensions of the labels you are trying to
use? Avery of UK has label templates for Publisher, they will show up in your
template menu. They are for 2000, but they work for 2003. Of course they use the UK
measuring system.

In page setup, select custom, input your label dimensions, change copies per sheet,
adjust the gaps and margins to match your label stock. Save this as a Publisher
template.

The label dimensions are

Paper backing, 5" x 10" with a perforation at 5" down
The labels are 4.5" in diameter
The center is 1.5" in diameter

Okay, when I do this:

In page setup, select custom, input your label dimensions, change copies per
sheet

I can change ONLY the margins/paper size to 5" x 10", I cannot create a
custom LABEL anywhere.

If you pay a visit to your local stationery or computer store, chances are
that they will have a pack of CD labels that also includes software and the
tool to apply CD labels.. the great thing about these packs is that they
give you the basic stuff to make labels over an over again..

All you then need is a dose of creativity..

Okay, I own/have/bought 300 labels that are 5" x 10" and there are NO Avery
sizes to fit. there are no templates with the labels.

So you are telling my company, throw out everything you own, MS office only
works with Avery? There isn't a way to create a template?

Broderbund sells a program that retails for $40, and their little card
making program has a paper wizard that does this. And my children at home
created cute labels.

I should go home and bring that program to work because MS Office can't do
it? This is absurd, if it is true.

Okay missed the deadline, used a free CD label maker, didn't have the
"professional touch of a ready-made image" that Publisher is supposed to
give. But I would still like to know the answer so that I can create a
common look to all the letters, catalogs, brochures AND yes CDs that we send
out.

Thanks,
Cara

To create a Publisher template, you use the shapes tool to create the
circles for the CD label and any other print area that you can see on your
blanks.. print it out and place the sheet over one of your purchased label
sheets.. hold it up against a light source.. compare for accuracy.. make any
alterations necessary and when you are satisfied that it looks ok, use the
'save as' function to save the document as a Publisher template..

Avery choose to supply templates for Microsoft products, and neither Avery
or Microsoft can be blamed because you chose not to buy CD label blanks to
fit what was provided in the software..

Some producers of cheap CD label blanks see fit to include an info sheet
outlining the procedure to make templates.. if they do not, again this is
not the fault of either Avery or Microsoft..

You also have the problem of applying finished labels to the CDs.. Avery and
Fellowes supply an initial kit comprising CD label blanks, an applicator and
software that enable easy creation.. then all you do is buy the Avery or
Fellowes CD label blanks thereafter..

MS Office applications can do anything that your imagination and creativity
can muster, so there is absolutely no need to throw anything out.. the path
that you have chosen will just take a little more time and patience on your
part..

Have fun creating your CD labels.. oh, and maybe you would like to report
back to this thread, thereby giving others some insight into how easy it
really is..
