JungleBoy,
Yes you can, although it is not just a drag and drop. And although it can
be done, it will be up to you and the PM to figure out any reflects on the
reporting you use (i.e task % less than what may have been previously
reported. I would make note of the Start, Finish, Work, Remaining Work, %
Complete, % Work Complete, and Actual Finish if the task is 100%. Even
better make a copy of the mpp.
Open the project and select your favorite view. It is easiest if you use
the split screen option (Windows -> Split). Click in the bottom screen.
Change the bottom view to "Task Usage". Right click in the right side of the
Task Usage pane (under the Gantt chart) and click "Actual; Work". You should
see 2 rows on the right for each task at the task level (Work and Actual
Work), and 2 rows for each resource assigned to that task.
This is the fun part.
1. Select the task in the top pane that had too many hours.
2. In the Task Usage view, scroll over to the date where the hours need to
be removed.
3. Delete the hours from the appropriate day(s) in the Actual work row for
that resource. This is likely to change the data in some of the fields I
asked you to note up above in ways that you did not want it to.
Specifically, if the resource was shown with “Oh†Remaining Work, removing
Actual Work hours will not automatically add those hours to the Remaining
Work column. So you need to make sure you reset any data back to where it
would have been had the hours not been accepted by the PM.
4. Now, back to the upper pane, highlight the task that the PM would like
to have them posted to.
5. Then in the Task Usage pane at the bottom, place those hours as Actual
in the same day(s) to keep things as clean as possible. I believe the other
fields will update as you expect them to, but double check to be sure.
6. Finally, let the PM know that if he does this again, drinks are on
him/her. You really don’t want this to be a repetitive behavior.
