moving objects

Mindy

Hi, for some reason I can't move pictures or clip art by clicking and
dragging. They are on the left-hand side and won't move. From what I can
tell there are no alignment issues so if you can tell me why I can't move
objects, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Mindy

Your objects are set as 'Inline with text' which means they behave like text
in the paragraph.

To change: right-click the object. Select Format. On the Layout tab, select
anything other than 'Inline with text'. Having set one such object as you
like it, you can 'Set as default' to use the settings for any new objects
you add; but you'll have to fix the existing ones manually.

I think this relates to what I'm having problems with.

I can't change the objects because the advanced button and page is grayed out.

How to enable?

You must change the wrapping from In Line With Text to some other style.

I understand ... the burning question is HOW? Nothing I have done changes
anything in that window and "advanced" is grayed out.

What type of object are you dealing with? What wrapping style have you
selected?

A jpeg. A photograph. I am unable to change from "in line with text". I
cannot select or have not been able to select any other option -

Is the picture in a text box? If so, you will have to change the wrapping of
the text box instead, but note that the text box is not necessary for the
photo alone, as it can be inserted directly and wrapped as needed. If you're
trying to wrap text in a text box around a graphic in a text box, then I'm
sorry, but it can't be done.

I'm having the same problem: I can't change any of the layout or wrapping
options because everything on the layout tab is greyed out. And there
doesn't appear to be a drawing canvas outside of the picture. Did you ever
find an answer? It looks like all the previous responses assume you can get
to at least some of the layout options.

My default is "in line with text," but the problem pictures are in a
document I received from someone else. Because all the layout options are
greyed out, I can't even tell how it set to be aligned.

Inline objects cannot be freely positioned on the page. You must set the
text wrapping to some other style before they can be moved freely.

I don't seem to be explaining the problem clearly. For the problem objects,
I can't change their text wrapping style because when I select the object,
then select "Format picture" and go to the layout tab, ALL the options are
greyed out. Again, this is in a document that was originally created by
someone else.

I don't think see any protections checked under Tools/Protect Document. And
I can edit and format elsewhere in the document. Looking back to when I
originally received the document from someone else, I see that it was
originally in rtf format, and I resaved it as a Word 2003 document. Could
that be part of the problem?
