MS office Professional 2003

I purchase an HP Pavillion laptop in 8/2006 with MS XP Professional and MS
Office 2003 Professional. The machine never worked properly. This year they
sent a refurbished laptop with Vista on , which was replaced by a 2nd
refurbished laptop with Vista on it.
I have installed MS Office 2003 Professional using the product key that came
with the original purchase of the Pavilion, I am having the following issues:
1) Each time I open any of the office applications it requests that I accept
the user agreement - I do not understand why this is happening since I had no
problem with the loading of the software and I used the correct key.
2) When I open a Word, Excel, Powerpoint file from my external backup drive,
the files are opned in "Read Only" mode. I nevefr saved the files as such. in
order to work on the file I have to do a "Save As", why?

I would appreciate your help in this matter.

If you have Windows XP, then log in to Windows as Administrator, start
an Office program, accept the EULA, close the Office program, log out of
Windows as Administrator, and log back in to Windows using your normal
user profile.

If you have Windows Vista, then right-click on an Office program
shortcut, choose to run the Office program as Administrator, accept the
EULA, close the Office program, and then start the Office program normally.

If the previous suggestion doesn't help, then see
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=884202 "You must accept the Office
End User License Agreement every time that you start an Office program".

2) The backup drive; are you using a backup program to backup/copy your
files to this drive?
