MS Office Program Files

Hello,

I am working on a friend's PC. She wants to install WIN7. She does not
have a disk for Office, so I am not sure if it came with the PC or what, but
I need to copy the set-up files so I can reinstall. Two issues with this
are: 1. where are they? I am assuming that there is more to it than just
copying the program files folder (such as using the MS Office shared file),
and 2. how do I retrieve her key?

I am sure someone out there knows how to do this!

Thanks

You need the Office CDs, no way around that.

You can download and install Belarc Advisor to find the key.

Before reinstalling the OS, start one of the Office programs. Go to Help,
About (pre 2007 version) and read the product key listed. If the second
group of characters is OEM then it is an OEM version and was installed on
the computer when purchased. You would need the original installation disk
for that version of the program because I would be relatively certain that
if it has been more than one month since the computer was new the OEM
manufacturer won't send a copy of the disk.

If it has three numbers in the second group of characters it is some form of
retail Office version and then you look at the question of does the owner
have access to the information where the product was purchased originally.
Look at the second line of the list in help about and it will tell you the
suite type (at least in the newer suites of Office.

If it is a retail version and you can beg or borrow a copy of the exact
suite installed then you can use that disk to install from using the license
key found by using Belarc Advisor www.belarc.com/free_download.html or
keyfinder from www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/.
