MS Project Central/Server

I am trying to find out more information about MS Project
Central and MS Project Server, and I'm frustrated to say
the least...

As I understand it, Project Central is a 2000 product that
supports Project collaboration. What is unclear to me is
what exactly the capabilities of the product are. I know
you can create status reports, task lists, things like
that, but what is the relationship between Project Central
and an MS Project file? Is it just a place to store and
view it? Can team members make updates? How much does it
cost? Any information about this product is very
welcome...

One more thing...what is the relationship of the product
to MS Project Server? Is Project Server just a later
version? What are the additional capabilities?

Anyone that takes the time to read this...THANKS SO MUCH!

Project Central was an early version of Project Server and frankly wasn't
all that good. While some other MVPs probably know users who have been
successful in getting it up and running and may have done so themselves, I
personally have never known anyone who did much more than get a test
installation set up. It was free with Project 2000 and anything you get for
free is usually worth exactly what you paid for it <grin>. But with 2002
they got it right and Project Server works and works well. Of course, now
that it *does* work, it's no longer free <g>. I'd suggest forgetting about
Project Central altogether and going straight to Server, now Server 2003.
Except in rare special situations it makes no sense to me to do a new
roll-out of software that is already obsolete.
