MS Word Picture Issue

R

Richard Sykes

We have an issue that we have been baffled with for some time, and this is
that periodically MS Word pictures (or inserted documents, for that matter),
when opened and modified by one user, will no longer display the Auto Shapes
that are contained within the picture. For that matter, any borders in the
text boxes will also not display (though any text displays fine).

If the same document is opened on another computer (call it a "good
computer"), and modified slightly (even a space), then the lines will
display once again; even on the "bad" computer that caused the issue (unless
it is opened and modified again on that computer).

The big problem is that we cannot isolate what is causing the issue, and it
can happen to anyone in our office without warning. The only fix I have
found is to restore the system (through XP) to a date when I knew it was not
having the issue; then hope to no end that it lasts a while. Needless to
say, anytime we have to modify one of these Word pictures we are always
nervous about what will occur.

By the way, when the lines (any auto shapes) are not visible, they do not
print either; it is as if Word does not recognize them being there. When
you open the picture you can see them, but not when you close it. And once
it is made "bad" on one computer, it is not visible on any computer until it
is "repaired" as I mentioned above.

We've been baffled by this for going on two years now, and I can never seem
to find anyone else that has come across the issue. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Ric
