My Product Key will not work to convert Word 2003.

Why won't the product key i was given work to convert Word 2003 trial, into
Word 2003. I was given a product key on a sticker and I was told to enter the
product key into word. Whenever I enter this product key it say "not a valid
product key. Please locate the Product Key on the sticker you were given".
Why is my Product key not working to convert Word 2003? Someone please
help... I need to convert Word 2003 BADLY!
