My typing does not appear

Office XP 2000 WordPerfect

I often find that my words are not showing. I can't get them to show on
screen until I use the directional keys. Can get very confusing.

There is no Microsoft Office XP 2000. If you are actually using WordPerfect,
then you need to post in the WordPerfect user groups; see
