"name of file".doc not available

Debbie

Running Windows XP and Word 2000. Occuring just recently,
can't open word files saved on my C drive. Get message
that reads "name of file".doc not available. It will
allow me to open the file in WordPad, copy, and paste
back into Word. However, when I save again in Word using
another file name, I am getting the same message when I
try to open the newly created file. What is going on???

This concerns the way Winodows deals with long file names, and the most
probable explanation in this case is that Word's regikstration has gone
awry. Try re-registering Word by issuing the following command from the
Windows start > run box - Winword /r
