Newsletter Mail Merge Problem

P

Pat H.

I'm am trying to do mail merge with publisher. It shows
up correctly on the screen...however when it is sent to
the printer to do pamphlet style printing with 2 staples..
it prints it all out and then staples them all together...
Is there a way to get each record to print separately so
they will be printed separately...

I have about 500 records, and I am trying to find a way to
mail merge so I don't have to put a label on each one of
them.

Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks

Make sure that if your printer does automatic collating on its own, the
Publisher "collate" button is NOT checked. Otherwise the computer will send
the document several times and the printer will think it is all one big
document (at least that has happened to me before).

You may be able to accomplish this using the Registry Fix (courtesy of
KATMA). I don't know which versions this wil work on - it should work on
Publisher 2002, but I don't know about Publisher 2000 and below - you didn't
state your Publisher version.

Open registry using regedit.exe

Go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Publisher\Printing

Create new "string value" called:
NumberOfRecordsPerBatch

Double click and set a value for your batch size (1 in this case).

Ed you old codger, how about you write a REG file to do and undo that fix in
the Registry.

About time you did something worthwhile for humanity - if its possible.

Here are some fixes for Windows XP for Publisher 2002 and 2003 - as soon as
I can access a 9x Registry-editing-enabled machine, I'll do one for that
too.
There is nothing to undo the fix, as REG files can only add to the
registry - removing from it requires a .inf file, and I don't know how to
write those.
The quantities are 0, 1, and 1000. If anyone wants any other quantities,
they can
a) Rewrite one of the files to do their quantity
b) Ask

Thanks Ed good to see your two old brain cells are still that functional and
you striking a blow for humanity.

I don't understand how to do that...could you explain in more detail?

Run the registry file marked "1 record 2002" or "1 record 2003" that I
attached in another post in this thread, depending on your version of
Publisher

Thanks KATMA! I'll go and edit my registry patches for that now :)
Is Publisher 2000 the earliest version for which this works?

i think i first tried it using pub95 or pub98??? one could try. what could
it hurt?! i've probably got my old notes laying around somewhere, along with
disks for versions 1, 2 and 3... ;)

i 've been using pub since it's inception. i still wish it would move a bit
higher on the ms 'a' list though. it's extremely user friendly, but a bit of
a dog, i'm afraid to say, on the production end. ;(
