Office 2000,2003, and XP.

I have the Office 2000 Small Business Edition, Office 2003 Basic Edition,and
Office XP Professional handy here at home.Now,since they all have some
differences between them as far as program options,ie. no Publisher in Office
XP Pro,can I pop in each disk and install what functions I want?I recently
said to hell with having all 3 installed and "upgraded" on my Compaq,so I
uninstalled them all,and just installed Office XP.However,this is when I
noticed Office XP lacking some features I had with Office 200 and 2003.My
other computer still has all 3 installed.Please help! I'm running a computer
business,recently started,out of home,and my wife does all the paperwork,and
she's going nuts with the conflicts.

Personally, I wouldn't mix and match.. select the suite that gives you most
of what you want..

If you want to install more than one version of Office, general best
practice is to install oldest to newest. I've found that, if I already have
Office 2003 installed, and I need to install something from the Office 2000
disk, then running a Detect and Repair in Office 2003 afterwards sets things
right. Or seems to, anyway.

It's also good to install each version of Office to its own folder. So be
sure you choose Custom Install so you can make sure the different versions
are installed to different folders.

So if I were in your position, I'd probably not worry about Office Basic
2003 at all, leave Office XP installed, and install the programs (Publisher)
you need from Office 2000 SBE (choosing Custom Install as described above).
Then I'd run Detect and Repair in Office XP.

No guarantees it will work and not cause you problems, but probably the
worst thing that will happen is you have to uninstall everything, run
registry erasers, and reinstall oldest to newest. Nah, the worst thing would
be you have to reformat your system, but I doubt that will happen.

What conflicts? You didn't mention any conflicts before.

I'd go nuts too if my husband expected me to remember that I needed Office
2000 to do this task, Office XP to do that task, and Office 2003 to do the
other task.

You can't do what you want to do. The closest would be to all three versions
installed and that would be ugly. And even if you wanted to try it, I
believe you have to start with the oldest version. You'd have to uninstall
Office XP and install 2000. If you'd read this newsgroup much you'd see that
many people try things like this and end up with problems with their system
not completely uninstalling the first version. I suspect some of it is user
error but in the meantime their systems are down. Is this *really* how you
want to start the new year? A computer that's pretending to be a paperweight
and a wife who is giving a new meaning to hell on earth?

What features is it that you like? Perhaps they are still there but moved.
Or maybe someone can suggest an alternative.
