I can see I'm not the only one having this problem.
I have an OEM version of Office 2000 Pro. I updated it
with Service pack two (1a) when it became available. I had
to
order the CD because it wouldn't install properly online.
Recently, I tried to update to service pack 3 online and
ran into problems also. I got the following error: Error
1301 Cannot creat the file". A directory with this name
already exists. Cancel the installation and try installing
in a different location.
I tried deleting any folders and files that may cause a
problem, and I think I deleted the reference file for the
updates. I received the Service pack 3 disk and I can't
get it to install either.
Now, I can't even uninstall Office and start over.
Everything appeared to still be working OK, but today when
I went to open Excel, I got the message "preparing to
install", then a message to contact the system
adminstrator.
I'm still running Win98 bty.
Can somebody help me please?
