office 2003 can`t modify the normal.dot

Hi all,

I have a user with office 2003 Sp2 that has this problem. Whatever changes
is done to office, the change is not kept after closing the office
application and starting it again. It`s like office can`t modify the
Normal.dot file.

If the same user does the same on a similar computer than it works. What can
be the problem ?

Regards,

Suspiciouly like Adobe Acrobat v7? If Acrobat (full writer) is installed, go
to Adobe and get the updated add-ins for Office.

Hi,

No, we don`t have that software installed here. Only the Reader.

I can add that when you add an icon to a tool bar the Normal.dot file (which
is on the users network drive) doesn`t get updated when you close Word. But
if the user tries this from another PC then all is allright.

Normal.dot is on a network file? Normal.dot MUST be installed on the local
drive with Office. It won't work on a network drive.

Terry,

Even if i copy her Normal.dot locally, in a folder where she has Modify
Rights, this user has the problem but only with her computer.

The normal.dot - by default - should be in documents and settings, username,
applications data, Microsoft, templates and the location should agree with
the location in Word, Tools, Options, File Locations tab.

If that is set up OK, then I'd suspect that the user's profile must be
corrupt on that computer. Does another user logged into that computer work
OK?
