Office 2003 problems

I have been having problems lately with excel and access specifically. They
both keep locking up on me. I have tried to repair, reinstall and uninstall
and with each one I get an error that says there is a setup in progress that
must be completed first. I have no idea where that comes from. I also tried
to download updates and the installation fails. In "add/remove programs" it
says I last used the program in June which was shortly after I got this
computer. I use some form of office fairly often. Any ideas how I can correct
this?
Thanks in advance.

You may need to cleanup your Windows Installer. See:

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

I have never found the usage information is Add/Remove programs accurate.
IMO, just ignore it.

Thanks Don, That did allow me to uninstall office and reinstall office. I am
still having a problem though with excel locking up. Not on all the files I
open but on several of them. Also I want to import one of my excel files to
access and everytime I try access gives me an error box that it has
encountered a problem and has to close.

I also tried to do an office update and the files will download but will not
install.

I am not sure why some of your Excel files are locking Excel. You may want
to try posting to micosoft.public.excel.newusers or one of the other Excel
newsgroups with more details.

A number of people have had problems with Office 2003 SP 2 installing. One
solution is to do a Detect and Repair on Office 2003 and all other Office
family applications installed. Reinstalling Office 2003 does that unless
you have other Office programs installed in addition to those included in
your Office 2003 package. Suggest you scan the post in
microsoft.public.officeupdate for the various solutions. If scanning the
newsgroup does not help, try posting with more details.
