Office does not recognize it's own docs

O

Olen B

I recently installed MS Office Student and Teacher
Edition 2003 on a PC with Windows XP Home.

Since the installation, Office cannot open either
compatible documents nor documents that are created by
this installation of the application.

If a document is created Word 2003, then saved and
closed, followed by an attempt to reopen the same
document by clicking file ->Open->filename.doc or by
clicking file -> recent document:filename.doc, the
following error message appears:
"The File filename.doc is not available."

If an Excel Spreadsheet is created and saved the same way
then reopening is attempted, the following error message
appears:
"The file cannot be opened because the virus scanner has
detected a problem with the file."

If a Power point file is created, saved, closed and an
attempt is made to reopen it, The following error message
appears:
"Powerpoint can't read Filename.ppt."

When I try to close Word after editing, the following
error message appears: "The file Normal already exists.
Do you want to replace the existing file. Ehen I
check "No", another error message appears that says"
Changes have been made that affect the global template,
Normal. Do you want to save those changes.

I have tried reinstalling Office. I have installed
updates for both office and Windows XP and I still get
the above results.

Please help

Temporarily disable your antivirus software. If you can now open the files,
run a complete virus scan on your system. You may have a macro virus.

Post back with the results.

I tried disabling the antivirus and it made no
difference. Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks.
