Office does not start up at all

One more thing I will try (according to a related topic) is to
reinstall the OS. But maybe I'll just wait for 10.4.9 to do that.

I reinstalled the Test Drive from MS. But the Remove Tool still did
not work. I tried the Remove Tool from both the DMG window and the
downloaded folder. I also tried drag/drop combinations, but none of
the combinations seem to allow the Remove Tool to work.

Shucks...but all of your suggestions sound good.
Maybe we're getting there, but have to try a couple more new things?

Appreciate all your help!

You can manually remove Office. The instructions are for Office X, but also
apply to Office 2004.

Hi Andrew:

Yes, believe it or not, we *are* getting closer. This is like growing up:
even though you get old, you still have no idea what you really want in
life. But you have an increasingly accurate idea of what you DON'T want :)

In this case, we are getting a better idea of what the problem is NOT.

Please follow Diane's suggestion to manually remove Office. Make sure you
get ALL of the plist files out: that's one major source of bother.

Check your Startup Items to ensure that the Microsoft Office Daemon is not
scheduled to run. Then reboot. (The Daemon will interfere with things if
it's running: rebooting makes quite sure it isn't.)

Now: Re-name your Microsoft User Data folder.

Then do a drag-and-drop install of Office 2004.

Before trying to open any of the applications, run the 11.3 and 11.3.3
Office updaters.

Now try again...

It is possible that the content of the Microsoft User Data folder could be
at the wrong version. If it is, none of the Office applications will start.

Hope this helps
