Office Pro. 2003 programs "not responding"

In Outlook I just recently started encountering the "not responding" in the
title bar and having to wait or exit. It also happens in Word. I have tried
detect and repair, reinstall etc.
I would appreciate your help.

Are you using Word as your editor in Outlook? Are you trying to
load/run/erase a picture or executable or macro while you're trying to
close/delete a file or email that contained it?

If you have a dialog open in one application and then try to do something in
the other application, both apps can get 'overwhelmed.' It was known as "DLL
hell" when 2 apps were looking for different versions of the same dll--the
2003 MS Office has a new spin on this thing called file contention. My Word
app will freeze--or my Outlook app will freeze if I switch between these apps
(try Alt+Tab to shuffle among your open windows) when I have a dialog box
open in one of them. A new MS problem, seems to me.

Are you running NAV? If so, try disabling the Office plugin - this is very
often a symptom of NAV's over-zealous file checking.
