Office update pushing Office XP updates on my system which has Of.

My wife's system has Office XP installed on it. She is only offered Office XP
updates.

My system has a version of Office 2003 installed on it. I am offered both
Office 2003 and Office XP updates. I have successfuly installed the Office
2003 updates, but Office Update keeps pushing Office XP updates at me despite
the fact that they cannot be installed on my system.

This appears to represent a clear error in the logic for Office Update.

Are the updates failing for you? It could be possible these are appearing
because you upgraded from Office XP to 2003 on that computer. Feel free to
let us know what update(s) you are seeing that you don't feel apply and we
can look into it...

Thanks,
Ryan

I am elderly and simply cannot claim with assurance to never having had
Office XP on my machine before obtaining and installing Office 2003. The two
updates that Office Update is pushing are KB890839 and KB873352.

Unless those IDs (which I hopefully transcribed accurately) give you some
insight, I shall simply decline the Office XP updates (unless I find or am
given a way to make the updates quit appearing).

Thanks for responding.

You never mentioned that these actually failed when trying to install. You
probably just had something installed that was an Office XP Component a
while back.. I would recommend trying to install the Office XP Updates.
Hopefully these install correctly for you...

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Stan,

To add one bit to Ryan's reply, you may want to check
in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel to
see if there are any Microsoft Office XP or
'2002' series programs (Office XP family of applications
are in the 2002 series) listed (for example
Microsoft Publisher 2002).

If so, then Officeupdate will offer you Office XP (2002)
updates.

If you had upgraded from an Office XP edition to an
Office 2003 edition and your 2003 edition did not
have all of the programs from your earlier package then
usually the MS Installer software would have left installed
those programs for which the new edition of Office had
no replacement.
