Office won't install

I hope someone out there can help me. I've never run into this
before. Briefly I had to fdisk my harddrive. I reinstalled Win98 SE
and all the rest of my programs. But I can't get Office to install.
The installer comes up and does the system check and then vanishes.
I've tried both Office 2000 and Office XP and they both do the same
thing. I've installed both on another of my machines and they
installed right away. I've even uninstalled Windows and reinstalled
it. It didn't work. I'm stumped ???????????.

Are you sure these versions of Office work with Win 98? I have neither
to check spec for you.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

XP will not work on 98SE. 2000 will and I personally have 2000 on a 98SE
machine.

I'm afraid you are incorrect. XP runs flawlessly under 98(SE) - it's the
last version of Office that will do so.

And you know this because?

To reflect the fact that Office XP does indeed work with Win 98 and
later operating systems.

1) Because it says so on the box

2) Because I have a 98SE laptop running it.

Check your facts before posting.

Check my post where I said "I stand corrected" before posting.
