Office Word 2003, document recovery

I had finished typing a document and wanted to copy it before I clicked save
just for a backup. WhenI right clicked to open the box to click on copy
instead of the box opening the last item I pasted repasted on the word doc
and erased the text. How can I recover the doc text that it erased and what
happened.
