A friend of mine is running office XP on a Dell inspiron
2600 laptop. Recently, he has been running into a
problem where Word and Excel will stall for several min
if he tries to open a file. Actually, the file opens
correctly, but when he clicks the file open icon, and
tries to browse to the needed file by using the "Look in"
drop-down box, or the "up one level" icon, the program
will stall and "program not responding" status shows up
for two Word/Excel task. His is experiencing some other
issues including very slow operation, but this is the
problem I have been able to get the most information on.
He is running Windows XP home edition sp1, and his system
consist of a Pentium III, Mobile CPU 1000MHz, w/ 128 MB
of Ram. He is also running Norton Antivirus 2002.
I have run Norton, Ad-aware 6.0, and SpyBot to try to
correct this problem, but nothing seems to help. I have
also disabled Norton's "Office Plug-in" option. (This is
supposed to solve a problem with Word opening slowly).
Has anyone seen a solution for this type of problem?
