OL2000 Send/Receive randomly hangs

I have OL2000 with on an XP machine with SP2. I have all the latest
Office updates for it installed. I have about 6 POP accounts it checks.
Five of them are the same POP server but different accounts. What has
started to happen in the last couple of months is that when it does its
auto Send/Receive is that the Send/Receive hangs while checking one or
more of them. If I hit the Send/Receive button I get the Send/Receive
dialog box where I can see the list of failed connections and the one
it is still stuck on. It just sits there saying executing. Be aware its
not hanging while attempting to retrieve messages, its hanging while
trying to connect to the server so it is not even getting to the point
where it is trying to retrieve. To correct the problem I have to hit
Stop in the Send/Receive dialog box and then hit the Send/Receive
button again. Now the dialog box appears again and it starts checking
the first account but hangs. I hit Stop again and try again and now it
checks that first account fine and gets stuck on the next one. I do the
same thing and it now checks the second account fine and so on and so
on until each account has hung and I have stopped it. Once all the
failed attempts to connect have been interrupted by me hitting Stop, I
can then hit Send/Receive and it will check them all successfully. I
can do it 10 times or more in a row at that point every second and it
bangs right through the accounts fine so I don't think its related to
the POP server itself. The problem will resurface a short time later
during one of its next auto Send/Receive attempts. Could be an hour
later or more. Its random but multiple times daily. I have set OL to
check for new messages anywhere from every 10 minutes down to as low as
1 minute with the same problem. Also to note actually sending messages
never is a problem though there are never messages in the Outbox during
its auto Send/Receive processes so I cannot be sure. Never a problem
sending mail when I hit Send on a new or reply message. Whats the deal.
I tried the Inbox repair tool. I tried ScanPST. I tried reinstalling
OL. Nothing helps. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Adam
