Older Access DB to 2003 Access

OK, so I have this file in MS Access (some old version of it) and the file
will not open in my home PC (with Office 2003 version of Access). I tried
opening it in Excel, which apparently should work but it doesn't it says
something about not working with a converter software (MS Jet or something).

I kind of need to retrieve the information from that file and I'm not quite
willing to open it in wordpad and go etiting all the stupic characters in
between.

Any ideas?
