One Task, Two Start and Finish Dates

I am working on a project that is broken up into three phases and I am trying
to keep each specific task on one line but with two start dates and two
differant finish dates. I didn't want to split the task because the duration
of the task becomes off. I've tried adding columns with start date 2 and
finish date 2 but can't get that to work. Any Ideas?

Can't do that. You would need at least 1 task per phase. However, you could
roll up each task to a summary task (read help on rolling tasks up to
summary task).

Hi, welcome to this Microsoft Project General Questions Discussion Group.

I assume you are trying to create two different scenarios for the tasks
involved. What you could do, is use "Interim Plans". Schedule the tasks with
the first set of dates and save on Start/Finish1, then Reschedule the tasks
with the second set of dates and save on Start/Finish2.

I hope this helps. Please, let us know how you get along with it.

A "task" produces a single deliverable. You might have a similar activity
(ie, "paint the wall") in each phase but I'll just bet that each occurance
of that activity is producing a different deliverable. Hence it's not one
task but in fact several and each should be scheduled as a line item on its
own.
