opening attachments

I am unable to open any attachments in outlook 2000. I
get an error message saying that the file is not
associated and i must go to my computer to pick a program
to open the attachment. When i follow the instructions, i
don't have the option to open any program. Could this be
a memory problem? Any suggestions?
