Out of memory error saving in Compatibility Mode

I am taking a Word 2003 doc - opening it in Mac Office 2008 and then trying to save that file. I am getting:

The save failed due to out of memory or disk space.

The file is about 200 pages long, has lots of embedded visio drawings, and is 12MB in size. My system has 4 Gig or so of RAM and even more disk, so its not quite adding up. Suspecting the Visio drawings were and issue I basically cut and paste-as .png file and the resultant Word 2003 doc is ~5MB, but no luck. There were a few visio I missed - but I have no clue if that is helping me or not.

Thoughts? I work with Word 2003 users so newer formats are not the best option.

Try ³uncorrupting² the Word 2003 doc and then porting it to the Mac. To do
that, select all but the very last paragraph mark, copy and paste into a
new, blank doc. If that doesn¹t help (long shot), John McGhie will probably
be along shortly to straighten you out :).

I agree with Beth: It is a corrupt document. Her solution ought to work.

However, you may find that you need to remove ALL the Visio drawings, then
uncorrupt the document, then paste the Visio drawings back in as .png.

Basically, I would avoid editing a document with embedded Visio in Word
2008. If you do, these problems are likely.

Cheers
