Richard

I'm runnning OS 9.2 and outlook 2001, i'm connecting to
an Exchange 2003 Server. On the intial install, Outlook
was able to open my mailbox. since closing and re-opening
Outlook i'm unable to connect. I've re-created the
profile, re-installed Outlook and i'm still unable to
connect. in the outlook profile settings it is able to
resolve my pofile and changes it the Exchange server IP
to its' DNS name. but still unable to open my email. any
ideas?

Hi Richard!

Outlook 2001 prefers a name over an IP address. The fact that you are
entering an IP address and getting a name is a good sign. This means you
have reverse lookup DNS working on your network.

If you go to a PC and use the command prompt to "ping" the name you
received on the Mac, does the correct IP address get reported to you?

Hello Bill-

I do get the correct IP from a PC, it resolves to the
mail server.
I read one of the other posts that you suggested to
delete the Exchange files/folders in the System ->
Preferences. i did this and i recreated the profile and
it connected, but then again after closing it i am unable
to re-open it.
Since we upgraded to Exchange 2003 from 5.5 we started to
have these problems. Is their something at the Exchange
level that is not correct? The other major change that
occurred before the exchange was we upgrade to AD and we
switched everything internal to a .local name, so mail
servers are XXX.aviinc.local

thanks for your response.

Hi Richard!

In your Mac's TCP/IP Control Panel is a field for Additional Search
Domains. Add your "aviinc.local" domain suffix there and see if you have
any luck.

For Mac OS 9 and earlier machines the .local will not affect anything
but it will affect the networking of Mac OS X machines because they use
..local to refer to a Rendezvous network.

Since your company is early in its execution of its 2003 environment,
you may want to consider changing the ".local" to something else before
it becomes too ingrained in your organization.

For a workaround to this for your Macs see this
<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107800>. I've heard this
isn't always reliable, however, and that renaming the company network to
something other than .local is better.

Hope this helps! bill

Hi

First, excuse my english ... I'm french and I know that I have to improve
it.

I have *exactly* the same problem than you.

Another information is that it works with OS 9.1 but not with 9.2, as you
wrote.

If you have found how to solve this problem with 9.2, could you please post
here what you did.

Thanks

Bye

Pierre

Richard..

any luck on this? We upgraded last night and now the mac
users w/ outlook 2001 get the server not available. They
can enter the server name and mailbox name, it DOES
resolve, but wont connect...I can't find anything on this.

Thanks!
