Outlook automatically deletes my messages without my permission

When I open Outlook 2003 to check my mail, I am experiencing some
unusual behavior. When I am checking the mail from one of my accounts
the messages get deleted as soon as I click on them to preview them in
the preview pane. This does not happen to all of the messages. What
is causing this? I checked the settings and cannot figure out why this
is happening. Most of the mail that gets deleted (or marked for
deletion) is junk but I am concerned it will happen to mail I wish to
save and I might not notice it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you have the Junk E-mail filter setup to delete messages? Check here:
Actions menu > Junk E-mail > Junk E-mail options

Also, are you sure they've been deleted and that they're not just in some
other folder not visible? Have you tried using Find or Advanced Find to
locate the 'missing' messages?

No, all I have set is to move the most obvious junk mail to the
"Junk-Mail" folder.

The problem is that the messages are getting marked for deletion. This
particular mail account is an imap account and I still have to delete
the messages when I get to work and log in using my unix shell account.
It is peculiar behavior that it marks some messages for deletion and
not others.

Thanks,
