Outlook cannot access Global Address List

Tobi

I was using Outlook on Jaguar but once I upgraded to Panther,
Outlook would not start up . Reading some of the helpful advice
from this support site, I finally got it up and running.

But now the problem is that I can receive emails and can reply to
them, but when trying to send a new email, I get this error
message:

Some of the recipient names could not be identified. The action
could not be completed.

I've figured out that it has something to do with my Outlook not
being able to access the Global Address List and Contacts
eventhough it shows in Outlook Setting preferences. I did notice
however that under the Services tab, when I select Outlook
Address Book in the white box and click Properties, the white box
is empty -- my coworker has "Mail - Last Name, First Name" in that
box.

Also, when I go to Edit>Preferences>Mail>Address Book, under
"Show this address book first" and "Keep personal addresses in",
it shows up empty and the funtion to Add/Remove/Properties area
is grayed out so that I cannot even modify it.

How do I fix this problem? I appreciate any helpful response.

take out that outlook address book, as that's just a service and add it back
again, see if that resolves the issue. if not then take it out first, then
restart outlook, then add it back again, see if that resolves the issue.

if both options do not work, then try a new mail profile in outlook, read
article below..

Have 7 brand new G5 Macs with Panther....

Installed Outlook 2001...... on 3 this was fine and they are
working.....

On the other 4 I got an error message about not being able to write to
the drive during installation.... exactly the same as this guy:

outlook.mac

Have setup DNS correctly.....tried running "outlook settings" first
and on some I had the GAL problem and others unable to open folders on
server....

Have removed all settings prefs etc and still have the same issue....

Have managed to install an old copy of 8.2.2 on one of them (which is
rubbish) and tried to upgrade to 2001, the install doesnt prompt for
upgrade as per the instructions say and once installed it refuses to
connect to the server....

All in all it would appear that Outlook 2001 for Mac and Panther dont
like each other.....

As there are lots of people on the internet moaning about this, is
there some fix that Microsoft can provide.

Thanks

This is a known issue at this time. MS PSS is working on investigating this
issue from all possible angles and will soon publish a KB on this issue. At
this time, the workaround which is working for most of our customers is to
move (or install) Outlook 2001 to another partition than the Mac OS X System
Partition, if available. There are some other workarounds too but they are
not verified to work in all cases.

Hope this helps...
