Outlook Slow Opening Attachments Over VPN (Remote)

I have an office that connects to Exchange Server 2000
via Linksys VPN endpoints. Data transfer is fair over
the DSL link (33 KB/sec), but opening an attachment in
Outlook is VERY slow (several minutes for a 100 KB file).

Is there a known problem or a setting that must be
configured that will speed this process? I would rather
not use OWA if I can avoid it.
