Outlook stops responding

After starting my computer I can open outlook fine the
first time. When I close outlook (by clicking the red X
or exit in the File tab) the icon remains in the Task
Bar. I am then unable to reopen outlook. If I click on
the outlook short cut nothing happens. If I click on the
icon in the Task Bar either nothing happens or I get a
message stating that outlook is not responding. In any
event I have to open the Task Manager and end task on the
outlook process. Then outlook will reopen, but it will
ask if I want to open in safe mode because it did not
close properly.

I have completed a Detect and Repair but the problem
persists. Any thoughs?
