Overallocated resources

I have a project with a task requiring 32 man-hrs for completion. I have
assigned a resource at 400% in order to complete the task in one shift.
Project tells me that my resource is overallocated. Why does this happen if
I have the resource max units set to 800%?? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

a resource is overallocated if they work 1 minute longer than available in
the time period specified. It could also be as simple as pressing F9 to
recalculate (verify auto calculation is on Tools/Options/Calculations...

Ways to solve this problem-
Change the time scale so you can determine where the overload is happening.
You may need to go day by day.

Change the automatic resource leveling (if on) to larger units such as
week/week or month/month

Also, check to see if the work is not spilling over to the next day...
change the format of the start and finish columns to time of day. You may
see the task does not start until 10AM for some reason (a predecessor).

Is some of that resource also assigned to some other task that happens to
overlap the task in question to some extent? Even 1 minute's overlap will
do it. Go to the start of the project, switch to the Resource Usage view,
select that resource's name, and press [ALT][F5] and it will pinpoint the
date and tasks where the overallocation is occuring.
